US 641 to be reduced to one lane for road compaction study

US 641 in southern Calloway County will be restricted to one lane on Friday, June 24.

The Kentucky Transportation Center plans to conduct a roadway compaction study on several sections of highway between Hazel and Murray.

Drivers can expect to encounter one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers between about 8 a.m. and about 3 p.m. on Friday.

Equipment, flaggers, and other personnel will be on the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Calloway Co. FFA member named State Champion

Calloway Co. FFA member named State Champion

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - A Calloway County High School FFA member was recently named State Champion at the Kentucky State FFA Convention.

Caleb Brannon was named State Champion in the Agriculture Entrepreneurship Contest. His entry will now go on to the National FFA contest in October.

This is the 16th state championship by a Calloway County High School FFA member and team in the past six years.

Other wins at the convention included:

  • 2nd place in Emerging Agriculture Technology- Caleb Brannon
  • 2nd place in Ag Services- Andrew Coles
  • 3rd place in Goat Impromptu Speaking - Megan Harper

Fifth Street in Murray to close on Saturday

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The city of Murray announced Fifth Street will be closed on Saturday, June 18.

The street will be closed between Maple Street and Main Street from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The city says the street will be closed for a Cars and Coffee Car Show.

Fair admission is $10 per person and includes parking, rides, shows and events.

Kentucky to change vaccine schedule

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Regulations governing Kentucky's immunizations schedule for infants, toddlers and school-age children have been changed, the Kentucky Department for Public Health announced Wednesday.

The regulations were amended, adding and altering the types of certain vaccines required and changing the vaccination schedule for others.

Immunization requirements were updated to better align Kentucky's schedule with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The new version of regulations put the Commonwealth in line with national pediatric standards.

"Improving the health of Kentucky, particularly our children, is a top priority of our administration," said Governor Steve Beshear. "The vaccine program for years has served as the cornerstone of public health, shielding individuals from illness, and also preventing the spread of dangerous communicable disease to the broader population.
