CCHS freshman to attend summer film, arts seminar

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - Calloway County High School freshman Will Van Horn will attend the 10-day Eisenhower Leadership Summit for Film and the Arts starting July 6.

The program will be at the University of California at Los Angeles. While attending, Van Horn will collaborate with other students to finish a two-day film project while working with staff from the New York Film Academy on location at the Universal Studios back lot sets.

Other activities include small group discussions with professional actors and an opportunity to explore options for a career in filmmaking. On day eight, the group will visit the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in the Simi Valley.

3 CCHS Speech Team members to compete in national tournament

3 CCHS Speech Team members to compete in national tournament

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - Three Calloway County High School Speech Team members will be competing in the Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament May 28-29.

Freshman Kailey Ray and sophomores Kennedy Garrison and Nick Betts will be traveling to Washington, D.C. for the tournament. Ray and Garrison will represent Kentucky in Declamation and Betts in Congress.

The CCHS Speech Team is coached by Michael Robinson with help from Ross Kelley and Amy Middlebrooks.

MCCH offering stroke/head injury support group

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The Murray-Calloway County Hospital will host a stroke/head injury support group meeting on May 19.

The meeting will be in the Center for Health and Wellness Classroom from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - Calloway County High School and Middle School band students have been named to the high school Quad-State Band and the middle school Quad-State Band.

CCHS band members recognized at banquet

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - Six senior band members at Calloway County High School were recognized at the Band Banquet for their GPA.

The six seniors all had a grade point average of 4.0 and received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.

MHS cross country team hosts 5K Fun Run

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The Murray High School will host their second annual 5K Fun Run on May 21.

The run will help raise money for the team's 2011 track season.

Registration begins a 8 a.m. and the run will start at 9 a.m. If you register by May 15, the cost of the run is $20 and you are guranteed a t-shirt in your size, after that it will cost $25. You can register online, in the MMS office or from Elaine Kight by clicking here if you are a business owner and would like to sponsor the run.

The 5K is a 3.1 mile race and proceeds will go to pay for transportation and lodging during the season.
