Murray Highland Festival begins 10 a.m. on Sat. | Community Spirit

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The 14th Annual Murray Highland Festival and Games will be Saturday, October 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Park in Murray, Ky.
Along with the Parade of Tartan’s at 12 p.m., this year’s festival will include bagpipers, Clan and Scottish Society tents, vendors with Scotland related merchandise such as: kilts, tartans, weaponry, genealogy, stained glass and jewelry.
Highland Reign will be the featured musical performers. This popular and exciting Scottish rock band will play the festival as well as the Ceilidh at the Big Apple the evening of the festival.
Scottish Highland games will run through-out the day with events such the Caber Toss, Hammer Throw and Sheaf toss. Pre-registered Tug-of-War teams will begin competing at 11 a.m. The winning Tug-of-War team will have $500 donated to the charity of their choice and the best dressed team will have $100 donated. There will also be a weaving demonstration and Highland Dance performances throughout the day.
Children will be able to compete in the Wee Bairn games, a pint size version of the Scottish Highland games. Princess hats and halos and pint size swords and shields will be available for purchase.
There will be a sheep herding demonstration by a local Border Collie breeder and authentic Highland cattle from Deeply Rooted Farms.
Admission is $5 per person. Children 10 and under are free with a paying adult.
Everyone is invited to the Ceilidh (Scottish for “party”) at 7 p.m. at the Big Apple restaurant the evening of the games.
