MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The City of Murray says the next Make a Difference Day will be January 5.

The city says this is the 89th Make a Difference Day and will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Recyclable items for Make a Difference Day will vary each time, but may include:

  • Eyeglasses
  • Plastic containers
  • Inkjet printer cartridges 
  • Glass
  • Newspaper (bundled)
  • Magazines
  • Cardboard
  • Books (remove and dispose hardcover)
  • Other paper
  • Cell phones
  • Clothes
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Tin Cans
  • Used Motor Oil

Murray City Council meeting Jan. 10

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The next Murray City Council meeting will be January 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Meeting minutes will be posted on the city's website after they are approved at the following City Council meeting. Audio tapes of meetings are available upon request at the cost of a cassette tape.

City of Murray releases holiday trash collection schedule

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The City of Murray says the Sanitation Department will be closed on Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25 for the Christmas Holiday.

All Monday and Tuesday customers should have their containers out for pickup on Wednesday morning. All other customers should set their containers out on their regularly scheduled day. The City of Murray Transfer Station will also be closed on Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25.

The Sanitation Department will also be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1 for the New Year’s Holiday. The city says all Tuesday customers should have their containers out for pickup on Wednesday morning. All other customers should set their containers out on their regularly scheduled day.

The City of Murray Transfer Station will also be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1. The Sanitation Department and Transfer Station will be open Monday, Dec. 31.

Send messages of thanks, holiday cheer to troops now through Dec. 7

(KFVS) - The American Red Cross will be collecting and distributing cards that send words of encouragement, gratitude and cheer to America's heroes for the holiday season.

The Red Cross is inviting the public to send messages of thanks and holiday cheer until Dec. 7 by mailing them to:

P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

To ensure that cards are delivered on time for the holidays, the Red Cross says they must be postmarked no later than Dec. 7. Individuals are asked to refrain from sending "care packages," monetary donations or using glitter or any other kinds of inserts with the cards.

According to the Red Cross, the company Pitney Bowes Inc. receives cards at the special Holiday Mail post office box, and screens them for hazardous materials. The company screens, packages and ships the cards at no charge.

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky State Police will be in Murray on Tuesday, December 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the annual "Cram the Cruiser" campaign.

KSP will be at the Kroeger supermarket collecting non-perishable food items until Dec. 14. They say all food collected will be distributed to local food pantries.

Anyone interested in making a donation can come by the Kroeger store in Murray and place items in the cruiser.

Murray resident, author to sign copies of book in Clinton, Ky.

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - A Murray resident and author will be signing copies of her book, "A Chance for Life," on December 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The book signing will be in the Hickman County Elementary School gym, 416 McMorris Street in Clinton, Ky.

Also available with her current book will be some of Laura Anne Ewald's science fiction titles.
