Kentucky State Police offers crime 'Text a Tip'

FRANKFORT, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky State Police is initiating a new proactive program where citizens are now able to text confidential tips from their cell phone.

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Kentucky State Police say eight more people have been charged in their "Up in Smoke" operation.

KSP, Murray Police Department and the Pennyrile Narcotics Taskforce conducted the operation on September 21. Thirteen individuals were charged by 9 a.m. that morning for various drug charges.

CALLOWAY, KY (KFVS) - Kentucky law enforcement made several arrests Friday morning in Calloway County in an operation called "Up in Smoke."

State police say the operation “Up in Smoke” was the result of over eight months of investigation into the trafficking of illegal drugs around Murray.

Over 30 law enforcement personnel gathered at 5:30 a.m. Friday in Calloway County before separating throughout the county to locate the suspects.

Police say arrest warrants had already been obtained for those suspects.

Troopers say they had charged 14 individuals for various drug charges by 9 a.m.

The Kentucky State Police, Murray Police Department, and the Pennyrile Narcotics Taskforce are continuing their investigations and more arrests are expected.

The following is a list of those charged as well as the charges against them.

Murray man arrested in connection with burglaries

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - A Murray man was arrested Saturday, September 15 on burglary charges.

David R. Todd, 33, was charged with three counts of third degree burglary. He was taken to the Calloway County Jail.

Murray Police Department responded to a reported burglary at Cohoon's Used Cars on Diuguid Drive. Officers say then noticed that there had been burglaries at Big Hal's Automart and Jerry West Used Cars as well.

When police arrived, they say they found Todd walking near the scene. During the investigation, officers found evidence linking Todd to the crime. He was taken to the police department for questioning where they say he confessed to all three burglaries.

According to the police department, stolen items included tools, office supplies, money, hydrocodone pills and a checkbook.

Murray man faces drug charges after being pulled over for erratic driving

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Murray man is facing drug charges after he was pulled over early Tuesday morning for driving erratically.

William B. Hornbuckle, 61, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/ drugs, first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, crack cocaine.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11 a little after midnight, Hornbuckle was stopped by a Trooper for erratic driving. Kentucky State Police say during the roadside investigation, it was determined that Hornbuckle was under the influence and was arrested.

During a search, the Trooper found a used pipe and suspected crack cocaine.

Hornbuckle was lodged in the Calloway County Jail.

Woman accused of stealing over $30,000 from her grandmother

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - A Tennessee woman was charged for allegedly stealing over $30,000 from her grandmother since December 2011.

Crystal Watkins, 37, of Lafollette, Tenn. was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card over $10,000 and with knowingly exploiting an adult.

According to the Murray Police Department, Watkins was the caregiver for her grandmother who lives in Puryear, Tenn. Watson is accused of stealing a total of $37,945.80 from her grandmother since December 2011. They say $33,312.68 of that amount was in Murray, Ky. She is accused of fraudulently using her grandmother's credit cards in both Kentucky and Tennessee.

Watkins was arrested in Tennessee and is currently being held in the Henry County Jail.

Woman charged with arson in Calloway County

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A  woman has been charged with setting a mobile home on fire in Calloway County.

Investigators say Jacqueline Hutchens, 48, was charged with criminal mischief first degree and arson third degree.

According to the sheriff's office, after responding to a fire on Wednesday on Clayshire Drive in New Concord, the home owner told officers that Hutchens had started the fire while underneath the mobile home.

She was found around 300 yards from the home in the woods. Hutchens was arrested first for alcohol intoxication and after questioning was charged with criminal mischief and arson.
