GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Wingo Elementary School recently received an award from VSA Arts of Kentucky that made it possible for dance artist Karen Balzer to work for the past month with the second and fifth grade classes on creating choreography to pieces from the circus musical “Barnum.”

The Wingo second graders will perform as clowns; they’re shown rehearsing here.

The fifth graders will portray tightrope walkers. Balzer is working with both traditional students and students with special needs for a regional schools’ dance assembly program at Lovett Auditorium on the campus of Murray State University at 9 a.m. Friday, April 19. It’s part of the Jackson Purchase Dance Company’s production of Spring Dancefest.

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Murray Police Department will be holding the Spring 2013 Citizens’ Police Academy during May and June, 2013.

The Citizens’ Police Academy is a program whereby citizens of Murray can learn more about police work in general, and how the Murray Police Department serves the community. It is an 8-week program which will meet on Monday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting May 6.

Topics will include: 911 communications, narcotics investigation, criminal investigations, DUI enforcement, traffic accident investigations, and other parts of the criminal justice system including corrections and courtroom procedures.
