Students to try scuba at underwater astronaut camp
PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Fifteen middle school students from around the country will participate in the Challenger Learning Center at Paducah’s Underwater Astronaut Camp on July 26.
The CLC has once again partnered with Mermet Springs in Vienna, Ill., to teach kids the basics of scuba and how to train underwater like real astronauts.
The students, ages 11 to 14, are from McCracken, Marshall, Calloway, and Carlisle counties as well as Johnson County, Ill., New York and Oklahoma.
According to West Kentucky Community and Technical College, divers from Mermet Springs will spend the morning teaching the students how to use scuba equipment and getting them comfortable in the water. In the afternoon, students will rotate to five different underwater stations where they will participate in various challenges such as working with tools and gloves that astronauts use when training for a space mission.
The scuba camp will be held at the Paducah Athletic Center.
