Fall Leaf pickup in Murray to start Nov. 12 | Home & Garden
MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The City of Murray says Fall Leaf pickup will begin Monday, November 12 and will run until it's finished.
The leaf pickup will begin in the area north of Main Street and east of 12th Street. The city says they will be working their counter-clockwise through the city. They say the city will be covered twice to insure that all leaves properly prepared by residents are picked up.
The city asks that you not rake leaves into the street, street gutters, onto the sidewalk, over water meters, into drainage ditches or mix with brush piles.
They ask that leaves combined with brush piles will not be picked up as they say this poses a serious safety risk to workers. Residents who have brush will need two different piles, one for leaves and another for brush. You can contact the Sanitation Department at 762-0380 for pick-up of any brush.
According to the city, leaves should be raked 2 to 3 feet from the back of the curb or edge of the road where possible. Again, they ask that you not rake leaves into the street, onto the sidewalk or into drainage areas. Residents who place their leaves in the street or on the sidewalk can create serious public safety issues. A resident who leaves into the street or on the sidewalk are subject to fines and penalties under the city's ordinances and will be responsible for any accidents they might cause. Residents who place their leaves in drainage areas may be responsible for any flooding issues the leaves created.
The city says bagged leaves must be dropped off at the bagged leaf collection point on Andrus Drive and will not be picked up on the street. Only bagged leaves will be accepted at the leaf collection point. This is a free service for city residents only, either the vehicle must display a city sticker or the individual must be able to provide proof of residency. Lawn and yard service companies will need to dispose of leaves they collect at their own expense.
According to the city, after the Christmas holidays, Christmas trees will be accepted at the leaf collection point for disposal.
The bagged leaf collection point will be open from Nov. 5, 2012 through Jan. 25, 2013. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon.
