(KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 1 Snow and Ice Team is monitoring a winter storm that is expected to be in the area Monday afternoon and night.
Because of this, crews will be pre-treating highways in the counties of District 1.
Pre-treating involves spraying brine on roadways where it dries to leave a salt powder that improves safety in a winter weather event. It also keeps snow from bonding to the pavement, making it easier to plow off later in an event, according to KYTC in a news release.
The KYTC said the overnight forecast ranges from a chance of freezing rain along the Kentucky-Tennessee border counties to a chance of snow along the Ohio River, with a chance of various types of winter precipitation in between.
