Gov. Beshear named "America's Greatest Education Governor"

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Governor Steve Beshear announced Thursday that the National Education Association has named him "America's Greatest Education Governor" for 2011.

He will accept the award on Sunday, which recognizes him for the work his administration has done for Kentucky schools.

"As Governor, I’ve made education the top priority of my administration," said Governor Beshear. "While balancing Kentucky’s budget nine times, I have consistently protected SEEK, the main education funding formula, from any cuts. Just this past legislative session, Senate Republicans tried to balance the Medicaid budget on the backs of our children by proposing cuts to school budgets."

Beshear said he has also fought to raise Kentucky's dropout age to 18.
