Murray in the process of updating storm grates

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The city of Murray says it is in the process of updating their inventory/maintenance list of storm water grates.

According to the city, these grates are inspected and cleaned after every rain storm.

The grates marked with white paint are already on the list. They ask citizens who notice any grates not marked to call the Street Department at 762-0350 ext. 123. The city will then determine if the grate is public or privately owned.

City of Murray announces completed streets for debris pick-up

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The city of Murray announced the brush crew has finished brush and storm pick-up on some streets and will continue work on Tuesday.

The city lists the following streets as being finished:

  • Kirkwood (completed south of Glenwood Road)
  • Clayshire
  • Belmont
  • Tabard Drive (Canterbury and Spring Creek)
  • Canterbury
  • Oxford
  • Beckett
  • Spring Creek
  • London
  • Chaucer
  • Spring Hill
  • Sandy Pine
  • Kirkwood (partial)
  • Southwest section (area west of 16th and south of Main)
  • Northwest section (area west of 12th and north of Main)
  • Northeast section (area east of 12th and north of Main)

The city says on Tuesday, June 28 the brush crew will finish Belmont Drive and move to Peggy Ann and Dogwood.

Murray Sanitation Dept. closed for Independence Day

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The city of Murray says the Sanitation Department will be closed on Monday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday.

The city said all Monday customers should have their containers out for pick up on Tuesday morning.

All other customers should set their containers out on their regularly scheduled day.

The city of Murray Transfer Station and City Hall Offices will also be closed on Monday.

Diabetes self-management classes offered through MCCH

Diabetes self-management classes offered through MCCH

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The Murray-Calloway County Hospital is offering two classes on diabetes self-management on Tuesday, June 7 and Wednesday, June 8.

According to the hospital, the classes help create awareness on the lates diabetic treatment and self-managment techniques. They will be held in the Center for Health and Wellness in Murray.

The classes will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and you must pre-register for a class.

Pulmonary function, blood pressure screenings offered at Kirksey Methodist Church

KIRKSEY, KY (KFVS) - The Kirksey Methodist Church is offering free pulmonary function and blood pressure screenings on June 4.

The screenings will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church.

The pulmonary function evaluates how well your lungs work through a series of tests. The screening can tell how much air your lungs can hold, how quickly you can move the air in and out of your lungs and how well your lungs put oxygen into and remove carbon dioxide from your blood.

The test can also screen for lung diseases, measure the severity of lung problems and monitor how well treatment is working.

Blood sugar screenings will also be available.

Next Murray City Council meeting scheduled

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The next City Council meeting in Murray will be June 9.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.

If you miss it, the meetings are televised the following day at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Murray-Calloway Co. Hospital to expand clinic

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - Murray-Calloway County Hospital announced recently it will starting a new project to expand the medical clinics.

The renovations will include increasing space for the clinic with 27 exam rooms, areas for each of the physicians and three new waiting areas.

"This renovation will help us provide the space needed as we continue to grow our services, and will allow us the opportunity to recruit new physicians for our patients in order to better serve the medical needs of the community,” said Steve Burford, Executive Director of Physician Services.

Currently, the clinic has five family practice physicians, an internal medicine physician/pediatrician and two nurse practitioners.

Phase one of the project was completed recently and the associates now have a centralized registration area. The entire project is expected to be finished by fall 2011.
