Murray Head Start selects 2013 recipient of Judy Whitten Scholarship

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Murray Head Start selected Blake Thomas of Graves County as the 2013 recipient of the Judy Whitten Scholarship.

He was a student in the Graves County Preschool/Head Start program during the 1997-98 school year at Sedalia Elementary School.

Today he is a 2012 graduate of Graves County High School who recently completed his freshman year at Murray State University, majoring in biology. Blake Thomas is the son of Carrie Thomas of Mayfield.

Presenting him the scholarship is Murray Head Start director Carol Elder.

Seniors boys, girls regional basketball games set for May 18

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County will host a senior all-star high school boys’ basketball game at Graves County Middle School at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and a senior all-star girls’ basketball game at 3 p.m.

Coaching the boys’ teams will be Terry Birdsong (Graves County), Bruce Lane (Calloway County), Brian O'Neill (Carlisle County), and Henry Edwards (Hickman County). 

Coaching the girls’ game will be Amy Carrico (Graves County), Ember Wright (Carlisle County), Rechelle Turner (Murray), and Joseph Simmons (Marshall County).

Murray, Graves Co. high schools rank in Ky. top 15

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Two Jackson Purchase high schools rank among the top 15 in Kentucky in the latest "U.S. News and World Report" Best High Schools rankings.

Murray High School and Graves County High School ranked 13th and 15th respectively and earned the magazine’s "silver" status.

School rankings are based on four areas. The two schools scored identical numbers in student-to-teacher ratio (18:1), college and career readiness (19.2), and scores in math (2.6) and reading (2.8).

AMP offers scholarships for communications students

AMP offers scholarships for communications students

(KFVS) - Tri-State Advertising & Marketing Professionals is now accepting applications for the 2013 scholarship program, which will award up to three $500 scholarships for the fall 2013 academic year.

Students from the following schools are eligible to apply for the scholarships: Southeast Missouri State University, Mineral Area College, Three Rivers College, Murray State University and Southern Illinois University – Carbondale.

Applicants must be pursuing a degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, mass communications, graphic design, radio/television production or a related field and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Special consideration will be given to students displaying leadership in the college or university’s official club in one of the previous areas. The completed application, along with supplementary materials, must be received by May 31 to be considered.
