MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - A Murray State senior quarterback was one of 20 players named to the 2012 Walter Payton Award Watch List.

This season is the second-straight year Casey Brockman was on the preseason list. He finished 11th in the voting following the 2011 season.

The Walter Payton Award was established in 1987, and is presented annually to the most outstanding college football player on the FCS level. The winner is chosen by a nationwide panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries from the division. When the award was established, it was the only such award to be presented to an individual player in FCS football. It has since been joined by the Buck Buchanan Award, which was established in 1995 and honors the outstanding defensive player in the FCS.

Racer softball head coach not returning for 4th season

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - Murray State Director of Athletics Allen Ward announced Monday that Jay Pyron will not return for a fourth season as head coach of the Racer softball team.

“I appreciate all that Jay has done to build the program from scratch,” said Ward. “He’s worked very hard and we’ve come a good distance the past three years.  However, after evaluating all aspects of the program, I believe a change will benefit our future development and the overall direction I’m looking for.”

According to Murray State, Pyron finishes his career there with an overall record of 80-79, 43-37 in OVC play.

“I’m excited about Racer Softball and the opportunity it has to be among the best in the conference year in and year out,” Ward said. “I fully expect Racer Softball to be a signature program at Murray State.”

MSU says a search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
