South 6th Street in Murray to close May 9-10

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The City of Murray says South 6th Street will be closed Thursday, May 9 through Friday, May 10.

They say South 6th will be closed between Memory Lane and Sycamore.

Kentucky Office of Highway Safety joins NHTSA in promoting motorcycle safety month

FRANKFORT, KY (KFVS) -. (May 2, 2013) – In recognition of May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) joins the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in reminding drivers and motorcyclists to “share the road” conscientiously and courteously to help prevent motorcycle crashes, which remain one of the most prevalent causes of death and injury on Kentucky roadways.

The campaign will include increased enforcement by local police throughout May to make sure motorcyclists and drivers of all vehicles are obeying state and local laws.

National Work Zone Safety Week is April 15-19

(KFVS) - A split second of driver distraction can turn a highway work zone into a death zone.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, on average, a person dies every 15 hours, and four are injured every hour, in a work zone in the United States.

The past three years in Kentucky, 11 people died and 471 people were injured in highway construction and maintenance work zones. That underscores the importance of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s work zone safety campaign April 15-19, in conjunction with National Work Zone Safety Week. The cabinet is hosting events across the state to highlight the safety message and will run radio public service announcements featuring Transportation Cabinet employees and children of employees.

Calloway Co. Sheriff's Office: Some roads covered in water

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Calloway County Sheriff's Office released the following list of roads with water over them.

Roads include:

Phillips Dr. near Bakers Cross road
Brandon Rd. near Bakers Cross road
Bakers Cross Road
Martin Chapel Road
Gibbs Store Road
Old Salem Road in multiple spots
Tobacco Road
Water is also over other low-lying areas

The Calloway County Road Department and the Calloway County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to use caution and not to drive over roads covered in water.

Rte. 94 reopened after semi overturned near Murray

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says Route 94 east of Murray is back open after a semi crash around noon on Friday.

According to KYTC, a semi overturned near the 16 mile marker. Route 94 was closed from the intersection of KY 80 to the intersection with KY 732. They say the crash site was in the Elm Grove Church area near Duncan's Grocery.

Officers say the semi was hauling fertilizer. The road was reopened just before 8 p.m.

3 car crash on College Farm Road near high school

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - Murray police responded to a crash on College Farm Road in front of Calloway High School on Wednesday, March 13.

Officers say Deneshin Burton, 27, was driving a blue 2005 Hyndai westbound on College Farm Road. They say DeAnn Robinson, 18, in a green 1999 Suzuki and Mckenzie Adams, 18 from New Concord, in a green 2003 Ford were stopped westbound on College Farm Road.

According to the police department, Burton hit Robinson’s Suzuki, causing her to hit Adams’ Ford.
