2 sent to hospital after early morning crash

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky State Police say two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after a crash at the intersection of KY 783 and KY 80.

KSP says officers responded to the scene just before 7:30 a.m. They say an SUV driven by Eva Hubbard, from Benton, was traveling south on KY 723 approaching KY 80. She stopped at the intersection and the proceeded across westbound lanes of KY 80.

According to police, an Oldsmobile driven by Santiago Arista of Mayfield was traveling east on KY 80. They say Hubbard did not see the oncoming car as she crossed the eastbound lanes of the highway and was hit in the passenger side by Arista.

Arista and a passenger, Diego Perez, were taken to Murray/Calloway County hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Hubbard was treated at the scene.

Police say everyone involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

KYTC offers rain safety reminders for drivers

(KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is reminding drivers that during a long dry spell oil and other residue can build up on road surfaces.

Rain moving across the region today can float a film of oil to the road surface and make for hazardous driving conditions.

Drivers are reminded to slow down and use appropriate caution during the widespread rain moving across the region this afternoon and evening. Some severe thunderstorms are possible.

According to KYTC, drivers are reminded that whenever it rains hard enough to require windshield wipers you should turn on your headlights to improve your visibility out on the road.

KY 1327/West Chestnut St. to be reduced for road work

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says a contractor crew plans to restrict traffic to one lane on KY 1327/West Chestnut Street in Murray starting Thursday morning and continuing into Friday.

Traffic will be restricted on KY 1327/West Chestnut Street between Gilbert Graves Drive and the entrance to the Curris Center on the campus of Murray State University. KYTC says this work zone is to allow concrete repair work along the westbound lane of the roadway.

This lane restriction is at KY 1327 mile point 1.7 in the 1300 Block of West Chestnut Street near the MSU Tennis Complex

This traffic restriction will be in place starting at approximately 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 24. The restriction is expected to remain in place until about Noon on Friday, May 25.

Drivers should use caution in this area and be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers during the day and a possible westbound lane closure overnight.

KYTC: Traffic signals back on after power outage in Murray

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says all signals along KY94/Main Street are operating normally after reports of a power outage Monday morning.

KYTC put four-way stop signs at a number of the locations during the outage; including US 64/12th Street at KY 94/Main Street in Murray, as well as along KY 94/Main Street at 3rd, 4th and 5th.

KSP releases traffic safety checkpoint locations

(KFVS) - The Kentucky State Police will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout the Post 1 district, to check drivers for compliance with laws including driving under the influence.

KSP uses traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for drivers using the public roads and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes. 

The checkpoints will allow KSP the opportunity to periodically concentrate its efforts in checking for violations of Kentucky traffic and regulatory laws that will ultimately increase the safety of the citizens within the Commonwealth.

Drivers encountering a traffic safety checkpoint should have their operator’s license, vehicle registration receipt and proof of insurance readily accessible.

KSP has provided the traffic safety checkpoint locations in the Post 1 district below.

KSP launches TACT, Click It or Ticket campaigns through June 3

(KFVS) - Kentucky State Police will be taking part in two highway safety initiatives in an effort to reduce deadly and serious injury collisions on Kentucky Highways.

Starting Tuesday, troopers in the Post One district will be taking part in the Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks enforcement mobilization. This highway safety initiative focuses on hazardous moving violations by commercial motor vehicles or other vehicles in close proximity to commercial motor vehicles.

According to KSP, the enforcement areas of Interstate 24 and the Julian Carroll Parkway have been selected based upon crash data along those roadways. Post One’s participation in the TACT enforcement period runs though May 19.

Starting the weekend of May 19, troopers will also take part in the national Click It or Ticket campaign. This annual highway safety initiative will mostly focus on things like seatbelt, child restraint and booster seat violations.

CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the intersection of KY 94 and KY 1660/Johnny Robertson Road is closed at this time.

The KYTC says it will be closed while a maintenance crews is helping with the clean up of some type of oil or diesel fuel spill at the intersection west of Murray.

Drivers should avoid the area. According to KYTC, the intersection will be closed for about two hours.
